Democracy Council

Internet Freedom & CyberSecurity

The Democracy Council believes that a critical foundation of stable and peaceful societies is the right of people to freely access information without incrimination, censorship, or retribution.  Such access to information and debate helps citizens hold their governments to be more accountable and transparent.  Increased connectivity and online privacy also spurs creativity, productivity and democratic advocacy.

The same technology that can used to empower individuals and communities is being perverted by repressive regimes to enforce minority rule and extremist policies.  The Democracy Council’s Internet Freedom & CyberSecurity effort is helping to lead the global effort to assist bloggers, activists, and whole communities fight back against cyberpolice and cyberarmies deployed by extremist groups and totalitarian regimes, such as Iran, Syria, China and North Korea who use technology to undermine human progress, put down the will of the people, and violate the human and civil rights of their own citizens.

The Democracy Council is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization that relies upon tax-deductible grants
and donations under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
