Democracy Council Participate in Observer Mission to Palestinian Elections – January 2005

Los Angeles, CA, 4 January 2005:  The Democracy Council announced today that representatives of the organization willparticipate in the international observer mission to the Palestinian national elections scheduled for 11 January 2005.

The Democracy Council observer team, led by Kerry Candaele, will help provide objective oversight to the national and municipal poll for offices within the Palestinian Authority.  The local liaison office of the United Nations will coordinate the international monitoring effort.

“We are pleased to be a small part of the international monitoring effort,” said Candaele.  “This election,” the first since the passing of Yasser Arafat and in expectation of the Israeli disengagement from Gaza, “will hopefully represent a milestone on the road to a peaceful and prosperous two-state solution,” said Candaele.
