Hamed Behravan
Director of Iran Programming
Hamed Behravan is Democracy Council's Director of Iran Programming. He has a decade of experience in social and multimedia communication with a focus on Iran. Leveraging his extensive experience in social media and secure communications, Hamed interacts with thousands of Iranians inside Iran every month. He is intimately familiar with the Middle East and has an in-depth knowledge of Iran's socio-political infrastructure. Hamed has personally field tested many low and high tech communication solutions around Iran and knows first hand what users in the region need to improve their social and cyber experience. Hamed has played a key role in developing the first ever Persian media app that allows a secure communication between citizen reporters in Iran and American media. He has designed and distributed multiple manuals on Internet freedom and ways to bypass filtering in hostile environments. As an experienced international video journalist Hamed has traveled to Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, Palestinian Territory, Turkey, Japan, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Armenia, Argentina, Uganda, and Yemen and has written, covered, and produced stories from international technology conferences to refugee camps in Yemen or low tech solutions in Uganda.
